Horizontal eye movements foster approach to negative pictures but do not change emotional valence: A dopaminergic regulation hypothesis

چکیده

A new dopaminergic regulation hypothesis is proposed based on two experiments exploring eye-movement effects. In the Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Saccade-Induced Retrieval Enhancement (SIRE) domains, mechanisms are mainly studied with explicit measures. Here implicit measures of emotion memory for positive negative pictures were investigated after eye movements or fixation in extreme right-handers. enhanced recognition predominantly pictures. The absence repetition priming both supported a dissociation between memory. Motivational effects emerged but affect remained unchanged. Experiment 2 revealed, initial freezing to pictures, an acceleration, particularly approach responses. postulated foster towards memories, promote, though pathways from Superior Colliculus, active regulation, primarily persons collateralization dopamine dominance.

Eye-movements reduce the vividness, emotional valence and electrodermal arousal associated with negative autobiographical memories

The aim of this study was to examine the effect of eyemovements on subjective and psychophysiological measures of arousal and distress associated with positive and negative autobiographical memories. These memories were ‘brought-to-mind’ whilst engaging in eye-movement or eyes-stationary conditions in a counterbalanced within subjects design, with pre and post eye-condition subjective ratings o...

Eye movements do not reflect retrieval processes: limits of the eye-mind hypothesis.

This research investigated whether eye movements are informative about retrieval processes. Participants learned facts about persons and locations, and the number of facts (fan) learned about each person and location was manipulated. During a subsequent recognition test, participants made more gazes to high-fan facts than to low-fan facts, and gazes to high-fan facts had a longer duration than ...

Emotional valence and contextual affordances flexibly shape approach-avoidance movements

Behavior is influenced by the emotional content-or valence-of stimuli in our environment. Positive stimuli facilitate approach, whereas negative stimuli facilitate defensive actions such as avoidance (flight) and attack (fight). Facilitation of approach or avoidance movements may also be influenced by whether it is the self that moves relative to a stimulus (self-reference) or the stimulus that...

Social phobics do not see eye to eye: a visual scanpath study of emotional expression processing.

Clinical observation suggests that social phobia is characterised by eye avoidance in social interaction, reflecting an exaggerated social sensitivity. These reports are consistent with cognitive models of social phobia that emphasize the role of interpersonal processing biases. Yet, these observations have not been verified empirically, nor has the psychophysiological basis of eye avoidance be...

Effects of Uncertainty on ERPs to Emotional Pictures Depend on Emotional Valence

Uncertainty about the emotional content of an upcoming event has found to modulate neural activity to the event before its occurrence. However, it is still under debate whether the uncertainty effects occur after the occurrence of the event. To address this issue, participants were asked to view emotional pictures that were shortly after a cue, which either indicated a certain emotion of the pi...
